Great Discernment Tools!
Testing Music In The Church
Too many churches today are allowing music to be used in their services that is not glorifying to the Lord and can actually be a hindrance to the teaching of sound doctrine. Pastors and leaders should be using their leadership role to test what is being played and sung in their churches. Though some are quick to test preaching and teaching from their pulpits, many ignore the music being used in the same services. This is a tragic mistake. Music is a powerful medium. It is something that effects deeply the body, mind and emotions. It is a proven fact that music often stays with a person far longer than what is taught or preached. Songs roam around in our heads, especially if the melody appeals to us. What is often overlooked is the serious impression music makes on people, and the teaching they are getting over and over again as they allow the song to repeat in their minds and on their lips. Music teaches things much more subtly yet sometimes far more effectively. That's why the lyrical content of music in the church, as well as its effect on the spiritual lives of those who perform and listen, should be vigorously examined by the leaders of the church. 2 Cor. 13:5 Examine yourselves to see whether
you are in the faith; test yourselves.
People who call themselves followers of Christ or "Christians" and claim they are born again must believe certain things. If they do not then they fail the test of faith. They can claim they are born again all they want and "once saved, always saved" but if they fail the test of faith there is no eternal security. Only God knows who will be saved, from beginning to end, because of His foreknowledge and omniscience (Rom. 8:29, 1 Pet. 1:2). God did not make an arbitrary judgment about who would be saved and who would not. His Spirit is given to those He foreknew, when convicted of sin by His Holy Spirit, would choose to believe and commit themselves to Jesus Christ. We are not God and we do not have His omniscience. Therefore, according to Paul, we must be sure our belief system is in the right place once our eyes have been opened to the Truth. I am not saying we do not have assurance of salvation, but our assurance comes not only because of His Atonement and promises of salvation but from our continuing in the Faith, which is always the Biblical criteria. Those who would be Bible teachers must teach according to the whole counsel of God's Word. Let me be clear. There is only one way to salvation. That is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. I will deal with a few of those issues following, but it is important to recognize that being saved is not just a matter of believing that Jesus lived, or that He was a man, or simply giving mental ascent to His existence in whatever form. "Blasphemizing" The Bible
I am going to go over an article I wrote back in 2006 in preparation for the book I wrote with Mike Oppenheimer called “Idolatry in Their Hearts”. This book is an apologetic against the false teachings of the World Christian Gathering on Indigenous People movement, the Emerging Church and the New Apostolic Reformation which got their ideas from the book “Eternity in Their Hearts” by Don Richardson. At the time that book came out no one really saw the dangerous ideas Richardson was promoting. All they would have had to do was look at the two subtitles of that book to understand the implications. The first subtitle in the 1981 edition read: The Untold Story of Christianity among Folk Religions of Ancient People. Those who read this book found some interesting cross-cultural ideas but apparently missed the false premise of the book starting with the subtitle. How could Christianity be “among folk religions” where the Gospel had not been preached (Rom. 10:14-15)? At that time Christians who read the book were apparently satisfied that, though there was some questionable material present, it made for an interesting discussion on how to do cross-cultural ministry. The subtitle it has today, which was first published in 1984, is as follows: Startling Evidence of Belief in the One True God in Hundreds of Cultures Throughout the World. This should have been a red flag for many Christians but then, who reads subtitles? But how could the “One True God” be known to Gentiles who, the Bible states, did “not know God”. I was talking with a pastor after a Wednesday night service and he mentioned that I said I had done an article comparing English Bible translations. He called me up later and asked me to come back and present the contents of that article I sent out in about 2002 to my mailing list for the Pacific Waves Newsletter which, unfortunately, I can no longer afford to publish and mail. However an archive of past issues of that newsletter can be found here. In that article I detailed a number of good and bad resources for pastors including Bible translations, concordances, commentaries, Bible dictionaries, etc. I present an edited version of part of that article on this DVD, particularly dealing with English Translations of the Bible. Translation is a very detailed endeavor and should only be undertaken by those with a proper education in that subject and a sound doctrinal background. I read a few books on that subject and it helped me understand the complexities involved. Hebrew is a rich language so it is hard to distill one Hebrew word down to one English word. Greek is a very technical language and it is also not easy to translate. This is why it is imperative to use the good English translations out there for comparison along with a good concordance and Bible dictionary. Go here for ordering information. A TALE OF TWO KINGDOMS
There are two kingdoms being taught in many churches today. Teaching about one of the kingdoms is on the decline while the other is being promoted all over the place. I am warning Christians that they need to check out who is using the word "kingdom", the books they have been reading and recommend on building "the kingdom", the people they have been hanging out with at conferences, and what they mean by "the kingdom". A Whole Lot Of Wishful Thinking These Days!
In this DVD series I want to detail a number of beliefs people have these days that have no basis in Scripture. I am going to roam all over the map, so to speak, and try to give fairly short answers on a number of topics and also give you useful links to articles that will help you deal with any particular issue. It is truly amazing how many false ideas people cling to without giving a thought to what the Bible has to say on the subject. Only $10. plus s/h. for US. Go here for ordering details.
Signs Of Apostasy In The Churches In The
End Times
There are many signs of the great Apostasy, or falling away (2 Thes. 2:3) indicating we are living in the end times (Mt. 24: 3-14) I am going to go through some indications of the Apostasy in the churches as a follow up to the signs of the times in the world. This is the "Frequently Asked Questions" page. You will find quick and concise answers here to questions we are asked repeatedly. You will also find links to other helpful materials. (1) Is there a way to search for information on the DITC web site? There are two ways
to search this local site. First, you can go to our SEARCH
page using the navigation bar to your left. Move your cursor over
the word SEARCH on the navigation bar and click.
This will send you to the SEARCH page. You
can then use the search engines provided there. Second, you can scroll
down the opening page and you will find the PinPoint search interface toward
the bottom of that page. Simply input the words you are searching
for and click search or press the "Enter" key.
Our recommended WEB LINKS can be accessed via the navigation bar to your left. Click on WEB LINKS. (4) Do you know of any good audio or video tape series? Our recommended AUDIO & VIDEO tapes can be reached through the navigation bar to your left. Click on AUDIO & VIDEO. (5) What book and publications would be of help to me? To find our recommendations on BOOKS & PUBLICATIONS, use the navigation bar to your left. Click on BOOKS. (6) Do you have any guiding verse(s) for DITC? We have many but these two come to mind often: Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry. (2 Timothy 4:2-5) But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. They said to you, "In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires." These are the men who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit. But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. Be merciful to those who doubt; snatch others from the fire and save them; to others show mercy, mixed with fear--hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh. To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy -- to the only God our Saviour be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and for evermore! Amen. (Jude 1:17-25) My name is Sandy Simpson. I am a missionary in the Micronesian islands where my family have served since 1962. We are now located on the island of Oahu, primarily ministering to Micronesian islanders in Hawaii and eastern Micronesia. DITC is only one of many ministries in which I am serving. You can contact me by e-mail at: ditc@hotmail.com or by regular mail at: Sandy Simpson
(8) Is there an uncomplicated way to discern truth from error and false teachers? The short answer is: yes. The first and foremost tool you have is the Bible. Compare all teaching to the Word. If it doesn't measure up, you need to vigorously question that teaching and the teacher. Do so in love, but do so! There are a couple of articles I have compiled that may help you in this process. The first one is the Five Core Doctrines. This details the basic doctrines of the church and how to use them to see if a person or movement is teaching and promoting error. Any deviation from these core doctrines is grounds to separate yourself from these people, or separate them from your fellowship. The other article is on the Unbiblical Doctrines, Teachings and Phenomena of the Third Wave Counterfeit Revival Movement. This will help you specifically with the Third Wave and how to help people who have been damaged by the movement. (9) How can I prepare for the coming persecution of true Christians? Persecution and tribulation are indeed coming soon. It will not only come from the coming corrupt world system but from people who call themselves Christians in the apostate world church. This system is coalescing right now. There are many articles on that subject, but you will want to especially read the following: Principles Of Persecution by Jacob Prasch (you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to read this article) and my study The Letters To The Seven Churches. (10) How do I sign up for the DITC e-newsletter? Go to the "Home" page, then cursor down to the icon that says: DITC Newsletter. Click on that link then go to the bottom of the DITC Newsletter page where you will find instructions on how to sign up for the DITC Newsletter. (11) Do you think there are hidden "codes" in the Bible containing new revelation for the church? No. Read the article The Bible Code: Prophetic Insight Or Fertile Imagination? by G. Richard Fisher. (12) Aren't we as Christians not supposed to judge? There are many ways in which we are to judge, discern and test. To help you with this subject, please read the article Judge Not? by Jacob Prasch. (13) What do you see as the negative ramifications in the future for those that jump in the "river" of the Third Wave? There are dire signs that the Third Wave is destroying the faith of Christians and leading them into the apostate world church. Read Doctrines Of Demons by Tricia Tillin for a view of the future that is closer than you think. (14) Can a professing Christian be demonized? I believe there is much Biblical and empirical evidence to suggest that professing Christians can be demonized, but not possessed. Read the articles on the Demonization page, especially my article called Scriptures That Confirm That Christians Can Be Demonized. (15) How can I tell if I have assimilated false doctrines into my belief system as a result of contact with Third Wave teachers and materials? The best test is to go to the Scriptures and compare what you have been taught against them. Educate yourself on the Third Wave and their false doctrines. One way to do that is to read the ARTICLES on DITC and other of our recommended WEB SITE links. Another tool is to take our quizzes called How Susceptible Are You? Take Quiz One then move on to Quiz Two if necessary. (16) What should I do if I see my church getting into the Third Wave? Don't panic. Get into the Word. Arm yourself with the Truth. Get on your knees and pray for your friends and church. Go to your head pastor and express your concerns. If you are rebuffed, go to the other elders of the church. If they are still unwilling to listen to what the Bible has to say, write a letter and distribute it with attached supporting materials to the pastors, elders and people of your church. Don't give up until you have either succeeded in getting the church to remove the Third Wave influences from you church, or removing yourself to a church that is Bible believing and Christ centered. Continue to pray for your friends who are in the Third Wave, but do not fellowship with them until they truly repent and show evidence of change. Try to pull them from the fire, being careful not to soil your white clothes in the process (Jude 1:17-25). (17) How do I help someone who I believe has been demonized as a result of being "slain in the spirit"? Read Unbiblical Doctrines, Teachings and Phenomena of the Third Wave Counterfeit Revival Movement. The end of this article will give you practical help. Be aware that this is going on all the time. There are many more occurrences of this than you know. You are not alone. I am here to help you. If you do not believe this can happen, you must understand that it was happening in the past as a result of the "slain in the spirit" being done by people like William Branham and Karthryn Kuhlman. If you doubt, read an Account Of A Christian Who Was Demonized By Being "Slain In The Spirit" by Kurt Koch, 1978 (18) How can I protect myself if I find myself in a Third Wave meeting? God knows your heart. He knows if you are truly obedient to Him, truly believe in His Son. He also knows if you are there to seek "power" or "thrills" or if you are truly there to worship Him. Every person I have spoken to who has prayed a prayer of protection has not been able to be "slain in the spirit". This is a powerful testimony to the fact that "slain in the spirit" is not of the Holy Spirit, but of spirits. I experienced this myself, praying that if it was of the Lord then I wanted it but if it was not of the Lord then I never wanted any demonic influence in my life. Though a certain group attempted to zap me countless times they were unable to ply their trade. I later realized just how much God had protected me in my relative ignorance. Kurt Koch had the same experience at a Kathryn Kuhlman meeting. He also related that when groups of Christians would go to William Branham meetings and pray that if what Branham was doing was not of God he would be unable to do anything, Branham was said to have come out and stated that something was prohibiting him from doing any miracles that night. I am not saying you should attend Third Wave meetings to do this. Koch also warned Christians not to attend occult gatherings. I believe this holds true for Third Wave meetings because occult rituals and methods are being used. Stay away and tell everyone you know to stay away. In fact, don't go to events unless you know exactly who is sponsoring them and what is going to be done and taught there. (19) I'm looking for specific information! First of all, you can use our SEARCH engines to find out if there are already articles on our web site about an individual. You can also join a very good discussion forum dealing with issues of the Third Wave by e-mailing Stef at steffo@earthlink.net and ask your question there. If you are still stumped, see #30. (20) Is there a Webring of helpful discernment sites dealing with the issues of the Third Wave? Yes. Go to the DITC HOME page and cursor to the bottom of the page. There you will see the graphic for the Discernment Web Ring. Click on the control bar in the graphic to navigate the ring. You can also LIST all the sites on the webring. (21) How can I find articles on specific issues? First of all, you can go to our ARTICLES page where articles are listed by subject. You can also use our SEARCH page to find articles by keyword(s). (22) How can I find the newest articles and information on DITC? Go to the WHAT'S NEW! page. It has all the newest additions to the web site. (23) Do you offer hard copy reprints of articles on DITC? No. You are free to print out articles for your own use. You can do this by going to the article you want and then choosing "Print" on your web browser. You need to check on the article, usually at the bottom, whether or not you are allowed by the author to freely distribute the article, making copies for your friends. If the article doesn't indicate what you are allowed to do, you need to contact the author. Please follow instructions regarding reprinting, distribution, linking and other restrictions by the authors. Most of the articles that I have written personally can be distributed freely. (24) Can I write DITC with personal questions or comments? I welcome your questions or comments. You can read some of the E-Mail we have received in the past. A big part of the ministry of DITC is answering e-mail questions. You can e-mail us at: ditc@hotmail.com (25) Where can I find your doctrinal statement? Our DOCTRINAL STATEMENT can be accessed from the DITC HOME page located toward the bottom. You will notice our statement is all Scripture. This puts some people off. It is that way for a reason. I wanted to make the point that all doctrine should be based solidly on the Bible alone. You may have noticed that the wordier doctrinal statements are, the more prone they are to error. I tend to like the more concise short ones that are based solidly on the Word such as the old Nicene Creed (the one without the descended into hell bit!). I decided to give this approach a try and I like the results so much that I have stuck with it as a basis for what DITC stands for. (26) I don't like what you are saying and I don't agree with you at all. Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion. I use the Scriptures as my highest authority in all matters of doctrine and faith. The Word of God is the basis for the apologetics on this site, not personal opinion. You might want to read an introductory LETTER that explains what this site is all about and what we base our arguments on. If you don't like what we are saying on this site, you can also look at our DISCLAIMER for some ideas to get you going. (27) I like reading testimonies. Where can I find them on your site? Be aware that testimonies are always somewhat subjective. Don't base your theology on testimonies. Base it on Scripture. We have many testimonials spread throughout the site accessible from the ARTICLESpage, particularly in the Toronto "Blessing" and Pensecola "Outpouring" sections. We also have E-Mails we have received with testimonies. (28) Is there anything fun to do on your otherwise deadly serious site? I think you might enjoy the QUIZZES. Of particular interest would be the Door Quiz. Have fun trying to guess who made the wacky statement and did the bizarre things in Quiz One and Quiz Two. You can also take our ongoing POLLS then continue to check the POLLS page for updated results. We also have some humorous articles sprinkled throughout the site. (29) I feel like I am all alone and being persecuted for speaking the truth. Do you have any encouragement for me? If you are standing on the Word of God, firm in your faith -- in the faith once for all delivered to the saints, then you stand in a small but close knit family of believers. Don't give up. Persevere. Overcome. Send me an e-mail and I will pray for you, or I can give you words of encouragement or advice. I have been through similar circumstances to what you are going through. I would also like for you to read the study on The Letters To The Seven Churches. It will help you and strengthen you for the task ahead, because those letters are the very words of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Be strong in the faith. Pray without ceasing. Be in the Word daily. Get into fellowship with believers who are teaching and obeying the Core Doctrines of the Faith. (30) How can I find out information on a specific
individual or organization?
New Sandy Simpson Messages on CD & DVD New DVD! The Question Of Dominion by Sandy Simpson
This DVD is a message based on this article: The Question Of Dominion. I am writing this article as an apologetic against the Third Wave, Latter Rain, Word of Faith and Reformed Theology teachings that the Church is to rise up and take over the systems of government, businesses and every other aspect of life. "See, the problem is, is that Satan has had too much of his way in our society because he has a government! And the only way to overthrow a government is with a government. It won’t happen otherwise. So therefore the government of the church has to get into place in the extended church just like we do have it very well in place, we haven’t reached our goal yet ..." (Transcript of C. Peter Wagner, Arise Prophetic Conference, Gateway Church, San Jose, CA, 10-10-2004) Wagner has substituted the "government of the church" for the coming government of Jesus Christ in the Millennial Kingdom. Wagner is "Kingdom Now" while the Bible teaches "Kingdom Come". What I wanted to do with this article is put the issue of dominion to rest by studying the definition the Bible gives to dominion and ruling authority. When we look at the subject we can easily ascertain what is going on today and what God requires of the Church. Go here for ordering information. Only $5. per DVD plus s/h. for US. New DVD! Shepherd Or Hireling? by Sandy Simpson
This DVD is a message based on the article: "Shepherd Or Hireling?" The Bible lays out the definitions of both an overseer (under shepherd) and a hireling. John 10:11-13 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. (KJV) 1 Tim. 3:1-3 Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer, he desires a noble task. Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. (NIV) Titus 1:7-13 Since an overseer is entrusted with God's work, he must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. Rather he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it. For there are many rebellious people, mere talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision group. They must be silenced, because they are ruining whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach—and that for the sake of dishonest gain. Even one of their own prophets has said, "Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons." This testimony is true. Therefore, rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith. (NIV) A hireling does not really care about being a watchman, but is more concerned with protecting his reputation, position and income. A true watchman will guard the flock against wolves from within (Acts 20:30) and without (Acts 20:29) no matter the cost to his reputation, position or income. Following is a little quiz you can take to see if you are a true Biblical under shepherd as a leader in your church, are becoming a hireling, or are one now. Go here for ordering

First of all, the best way you can support this web site is to be a Berean. Search the Scriptures daily and stand firm in your faith against the apostasy of the last days. It would give me great joy if more Christians would learn to discern! Secondly, please continue to uphold this ministry in prayer. The expository nature of this site has brought down the wrath of the enemy countless times. Thirdly, there are many costs involved in running this site as well as providing research and materials so that you will be armed with the truth. I send out three separate newsletters and provide other apologetics materials free of charge to Christian leaders in this area of the world. I am a full time missionary supported by sending churches in the U.S. For some years I did not ask for support but some people have sent me support and asked how they can help, so I want to provide the following information. Please don't neglect other Christian ministries that uphold the truth as God lays them on your heart. There are many. My contact information if you wish to send in monetary support is: Deception In The Church
