Jude 1:1-2 Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James, To those who have been called, who are loved by God the Father and kept by Jesus Christ: Mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance. Jude was the brother of Jesus Christ. But it is significant that he calls himself the brother of James. Jude wants everyone to know that, though he is a half-brother of Jesus Christ through his mother Mary, he considers himself to be a servant of Jesus. I'm sure there were those who tried to idolize him for being the brother of Jesus Christ. If he had the character of some of the current large crop of false teachers, he would have written "Jude, the brother of Jesus Christ." I'm sure if some of these modern heretics could trace their roots back to Christ, they would use that information to get support for themselves and power over people. But Jude does just the opposite. He calls himself the servant of Jesus Christ. He is addressing this letter to those who have been called, and who are loved by God the Father and kept by Jesus Christ. So he is addressing this letter to Christians. God has called every true believer.

For decades, John MacArthur has railed on prosperity preachers, likening them to "greed mongerers" who led First Century cults. Recently, he's also taken aim at scandal-plagued evangelical leaders, like the late apologist Ravi Zacharias and former Hillsong Pastor Carl Lentz, saying these celebrities were in ministry only for the money. That's why "liars and frauds and false teachers" are in business, MacArthur said in a recent sermon. "False teachers always do it for the same reason-filthy lucre, money." Yet according to financial statements and tax forms obtained by The Roys Report, John MacArthur and his family preside over a religious media and educational empire that has over $130 million in assets and generates more than $70 million a year in tax-free revenue.

Identifying the mockers and scoffers

Mockers and scoffers are at an all-time high in the world and Church today. Prov. 14:9 "Fools mock at sin." They mocked Jesus as he was to die for sin. (Mt.20:19; Mk.10:24; Lk.14:29, 23:11) To mock means to make fun of, to make light of, and cause derision. They are those who are insulting or have contemptuous action or speech. Jeremiah says he as a prophet did, " not sit in the assembly of the mockers" (Jer.15:17). As a prophet he was to be consecrated to the service of the Lord, meaning having separation from those who think lightly of this service and the Lord. The same is instructed to believers in Christ today. The Psalmist writes in Ps 1:1 " Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful." Jude 17-19 " But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ: how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts. These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit. " This word mockers is "scoffers," this word is not found anywhere else in the New Testament. They are murmurers; complainers who disturb the peace of the church and it has everything to do with the coming of the Lord. It's a parallel verse to 2 Peter.

"Hillsong has hosted Roman Catholic masses, has put on literal circus performances, held sleazy Christmas performances and paraded scantily clad women across the stage, and featured a "naked cowboy" at a women's conference followed by a "naked Santa" at another conference." Hillsong Church is by far the most scandalous organization that his claimed the name of Christ in modern history. Over the last few years, Hillsong has been plagued by a number of sex scandals including, most recently, the lead pastor of the NYC branch being fired for having an adulterous affair with an Islamic woman.
