The Use of Invective
in Apologetics
by Sandy Simpson

This DVD is a message based on this article.

This article is about the use of invective while attempting to do apologetics or teaching discernment.  Invective is defined as a noun: insulting, abusive, or highly critical language ie. "he let out a stream of invective".  I admit to using invective at times in the past.  My goal is to stop that practice and focus on the facts, not attack an individual's ability to comprehend.
In the case of Christians, the first thing to consider when doing apologetics is our mandate to reconcile people to Christ, no matter who they are.
2 Cor. 5:18-21 Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

False Brethren Secretly Brought In
by Sandy Simpson, 1/15/19 ACT Logo 2

Galatians 2:4 But it was because of the false brethren secretly brought in, who had sneaked in to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, in order to bring us into bondage. (NASB) Galatians 2:4 And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage: (KJV) The context of this passage is when Paul went to Jerusalem to meet with the Apostles and he was addressing the Judaizers who were bringing in legalistic heresy by adding works to salvation by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.  These men, not unlike their counterparts today, were "hypocrites. They were actors pretending to be Christian, but they were not. They, in effect, wore a mask or a religious costume, and imitated the speech of true Christians, learning all the Christian words like an actor playing a role. They gave the outward appearance of being godly, but inwardly they were ungodly." (Mike Storti, False Brethren) We know that the apostles themselves were almost duped by these ideas and if it weren't for Paul and Tutus we would likely have a different version of Christianity today.  Jewish false brethren believed that followers of Christ must be circumcised as per the Law of Moses.  They had ignored what Jesus stated at the Last Supper: Luke 22:20 And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, "This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood. Hebrews 8:13 When He said, "A new covenant," He has made the first obsolete. But whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to disappear.

Would Spurgeon Attend the G3 Conference

The brothers at G3 may quote Spurgeon this week, but if Spurgeon were alive, he wouldn't be in the room to hear it.

My interview about NAR with ex-New Ager Doreen Virtue
by Spirit of Error, 1/20/19

Yesterday, I was interviewed about the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) by two ex-New Agers, Melissa Dougherty and Doreen Virtue. Doreen Virtue was a well-known New Age author before converting to Christianity two years ago. Now she has a ministry warning people about the dangers of New Age beliefs. She has a large following, including many New Agers and former New Agers. On her webcast, yesterday, we discussed NAR and how specific NAR practices, such as exercises designed to "activate" the miraculous gift of prophecy, have more in common with New Age practices than the miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit found in Scripture. We also discussed the major role Bethel Church in Redding, California, has played in promoting these New Age-type activation exercises. And we talked about the need for spiritual discernment, including the importance of having a full understanding of the Bible, not just a superficial understanding, and how to get that understanding. The webcast has already received over 3,000 views in less than 24 hours. Check out the webcast on YouTube.

An Act of Integrity: Noted Conference Speaker Cancels Engagement
at Herescope, 1/21/19 Herescope

Patrick Wood, a well-known speaker, writer, researcher and author, has just issued a public statement withdrawing his name from the 2019 Red River Prophecy Conference that is scheduled to be held in Moorhead, Minnesota on March 15-17th. We wish to publicly commend Patrick Wood for his courageous act of integrity and honor him for taking a biblical stand. Our sincere, fervent prayer is that other men of the Gospel will boldly follow suit.
