A Whole Lot Of Wishful Thinking These Days! - Part 1

A Whole Lot Of Wishful Thinking These Days!

by Sandy Simpson

This DVD series is a teaching based on this article.

In this DVD series I want to detail a number of beliefs people have these days that have no basis in Scripture.  I am going to roam all over the map, so to speak, and try to give fairly short answers on a number of topics and also give you useful links to articles that will help you deal with any particular issue.  It is truly amazing how many false ideas people cling to without giving a thought to what the Bible has to say on the subject.

Dear Friends,

If there is a "rebooting" of the churches, they are being rebooted and abandoning the Faith once for all delivered.

When I read the title of this issue of the ElijahList, it made me really angry.  The title was ""Rebooting" the Church: Changing Times and Changing Seasons".  I immediately asked myself the question: Is it a good thing to "reboot" the Church?  Revival is a good thing when it is based on repentance (Acts 3:19). But this is not what Brown is talking about. He is talking about "rebooting". When you reboot a computer you turn it off and on again, erasing any programs running, making a fresh start which sometimes works on computers and sometimes does not (for example when there is a virus in the computer - pun intended!). It is a good thing to return to our first love of the Jesus Christ and the Gospel (Rev. 2:4-5). But this is also not what Brown is talking about. And how could he? The churches involved with the false apostles, false prophets, false teachers of the New Apostolic have already had their candlestick removed long ago. They can keep rebooting themselves in their occult "slain in the spirit" 24/7 and it will not bring repentance and refreshing. It will only strengthen the delusion they have put themselves under and that God is allowing on them as a condemnation.

Embracing Contemplative Shows Ill Effects at Moody Bible Institute in Ecumenical "Road to Rome" Event
by Lighthouse Trails, 12/14/13 LT Publishing

For over seven years now, Lighthouse Trails has followed Moody Bible Institute's continued promotion of contemplative spirituality. Although the organization has denied that they are promoting contemplative, the evidence has consistently existed. Those who have a good understanding of contemplative spirituality are aware of the inevitable outcome for followers of contemplative. This outcome is a change in spiritual attitude that leads to the following - ecumenism (a joining together of all religious traditions, in particularly Catholicism first, then Islam),  interspirituality (all paths lead to God), panentheism (God is in all), and eventually universalism (all are saved, regardless of belief - thus no need for the Cross).

by Gary Gilley Think On These Things
Think On These Things,
November/December 2013
Volume 19, Issue 5

The Spiritual Formation Movement has rocked the church. Ancient disciplines, most often practiced within the monastic movement in the early centuries of Christianity, have been dusted off, repacked, and resubmitted to believers as the means for obtaining spiritual growth. There is increasing discussion about fasting, journaling, pilgrimage, simplicity, solitude, silence, contemplative prayer, and spiritual direction in Christian literature. What can be learned from this renewed interest in spiritual formation and what are the dangers? The last eight editions of "Think on These Things" have been written to interact with the history, teachings and dangers of the Spiritual Formation Movement. I want to now turn from the disciplines practiced in modern spiritual formation to the biblical alternative to spiritual formation, as described in the earlier articles. We will examine the means, or disciplines if you choose, which the Word of God clearly identifies as ways God has designed for His people to be transformed into Christ-likeness and to experience intimacy with Him.

The "Work Crew" of the Church-the ministry of discernment
by Barbara Wilhelm, 12/15/13

On today's stage ministries engaged in biblical discernment are often beleaguered and harassed as being critical and judgmental. Yet the Bible holds the ministry of discernment to be one of the finest tools in establishing and maintaining biblical purity.
