A Whole Lot Of Wishful Thinking These Days! - Part 1

A WHOLE LOT OF WISHFUL THINKING THESE DAYS - Part 1
In this DVD series I want to detail a number of beliefs people have these days that have no basis in Scripture.  I am going to roam all over the map, so to speak, and try to give fairly short answers on a number of topics and also give you useful links to articles that will help you deal with any particular issue.  It is truly amazing how many false ideas people cling to without giving a thought to what the Bible has to say on the subject.

Believers In Grace

Believers In Grace Fellowship is a nondenominational family Bible church located in Marion, Iowa. Our sole purpose is serving GOD in our greatest capacity and to see souls saved by faith in Jesus Christ. We have multiple service times and believe in active participation for all christians, for the Bible teaches the "priesthood of all believers." Therefore, the number and facets to the ministry are innumerable, but one and the selfsame Spirit divides our giftings severally as He wills. We welcome anyone of any faith in any status in life to come and hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our meetings. Though our heart reaches out to the world, we are resolved to preach the Gospel truth, no matter how offensive it might be to the sinner. We firmly hold to the fact that the Church is not an invention of man, nor something you "have" or "go to", but is a building made without human hands. We dare not adjust it to make it more palatable to this world which is so hostile to Christ. Our church is an entity, not a program. As living stones, each member plays an integral and important role in the Body of Christ.  The Greek word koinonia (Κοινονια - koy-no-NEE-ah) is used to describe the community of love and self-sacrifice observed in the early church from the book of Acts. In English, it is translated as Fellowship and is our highest goal - to have fellowship with GOD and to pursue this same koinonia with one another.

Dear All,

One of the points of my article on Harold Camping is that if a person predicts the coming of Christ on a certain day and it does not happen, and also teaches other false teachings, why would anyone expect this new prediction to work out?  At the end of my article I also show how many, many predictions of the end of the world and the coming of Christ have failed in the past all the way back to the first century AD.

Harold Camping Strikes (Out) Again!
by Sandy Simpson, 12/5/10ACT Logo 2

Imagine my shock when I heard that Harold Camping was up to his former tricks in predicting, using some kind of fancy numerology, that Jesus Christ will return on May 21, 2011.  I quickly thought about how I would cancel my plane reservations to speak at a discernment conference.  I mean, if Jesus is coming back then there will no longer be a need to expose false teachers because they will have met their demise along with their leader.  But then I realized, Camping is himself a false teacher and so I thought I would write this article to use on my speaking trip since I will be talking about his second failed prediction then.

Youth With A Mission (YWAM) - Will You Entrust Your Youth To YWAM?
by Chris LawsonSpiritual Research Network
Spiritual Research Network, 12/5/10

In 1993, I traveled across the globe and was involved with Youth With A Mission.  From California, to a YWAM Discipleship Training base on the Hawaiian island of Maui for one month, and then to Bali, Indonesia for one month of outreach YWAM style - Little did I know at the time, I was in for a real ride. Unaware of the problematic teachings with YWAM and its nose dive into unbelievable compromises and affiliation with known false teachers and false prophets, I embarked on my journey.  Within one week, I was very sad that I had gotten involved.  Being involved with YWAM was a very serious wake up call to what is really going on in this very compromised movement.

The "Creeping" Effect - The New Age and Evangelical Christianity
by Ray Yungen, 12/6/10LT Research

If you have ever wondered why New Age authors and their teachings are creeping past many Christians, then maybe the definition of creeping might help. The term means: slowly advancing at a speed that is not really apparent until you look back over a long time period. For instance, creeping inflation is not noticed in the short term, but when one looks back over twenty to thirty years, it is shocking. A meal that cost two dollars in 1970 now may cost eight dollars-however, the increase moved so slowly that the impact was diminished.
