The Harbinger

SETTING ASIDE the "ancient mystery" of the nine harbingers (depicted as pictographic clay seals in Jonathan Cahn's fictional story), there is another "secret" message that flows in the subtext of Cahn's New York Times bestseller, The Harbinger ( TH ). Evaluating this hidden stream requires some historic "archaeology" but will reveal that Cahn's nine harbingers are built not on Scripture but on sinking sand.

Spiritual Disciplines Handbook: Practices That Transform Us by Adele Ahlberg Calhoun is a primer on contemplative mysticism, bursting with contemplative meditation instruction along with references and quotes by some of the movement's most prolific mystics on the scene today. It's a book one might expect to find on the shelves of a Catholic monastery, a New Age bookstore, or in an emerging church coffee house; while it probably is in those types of places, the book has become a common textbook in many spiritual formation classes and has found a growing audience with evangelical pastors, seminary professors, and Christian ministry leaders.

Sun Stand Still

Earlier in Steven Furtick Bringin' On Word Faith And The Pastrixes I told you that he's developing a rather aggressive hybrid Seeker Driven/quasi-Word Faith religion that we might well deem as Furtickism. He refers to it as "audacious faith' and is the subject of his first book Sun Stand Still (SSS); which came with ringing endorsements from spiritual wingnuts like Dutch Sheets of the NAR and "Bishop" Eddie Long.
