The focus of Guarding His Flock Ministries is set not only against the Old Testament and its picture of shepherd leadership--which was found to be both derelict and responsible--but also upon Jesus' example as the Good Shepherd, and Paul's warning to the Ephesian congregation; that false teachers-wolves in sheep's clothing-would arise from within their own midst and spoil the flock. Note: Paul predicted the certain, not hypothetical, rise of wolves, the false teachers, in their midst (Compare 2 Peter 2:1.). What concerned the apostle was not the "isms" that might invade the church from the outside, but rather the "schisms" that like a Trojan Horse, would cunningly and deceptively rise in the church from the inside.

The Shack by William P. Young | Reviewed by Pastor Larry DeBruyn
Words can create mental pictures. Someone once said that a picture is worth a thousand words. In an image-oriented age where people watch more and read less, this statement makes its point. But words can also create images. Through the mind's eye, we see. Someone once defined idolatry as thinking wrong thoughts about God. So the question becomes, with the stroke of his verbal brush and in his bestselling novel The Shack, what picture of God does William P. Young create? I am fearful that the book's painting of God, even though fictional, might promote the wrong image of Him.

The Shack by William P. Young | Reviewed by Gary Gilley One of the most popular and controversial Christian books of recent years is the fictional work by first time author William Young. Evangelical recording artist Michael W. Smith states, "The Shack will leave you craving for the presence of God." Author Eugene Peterson believes "this book has the potential to do for our generation what John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress did for his. It's that good!" On the other hand, seminary president Al Mohler says the book "includes undiluted heresy" and many concur. Given its popularity (number one on the New York Times bestseller list for paperback fiction), influence and mixed reviews, we need to take a careful look.

The Shack by William P. Young | Reviewed by Orrel Steinkamp
My first encounter with the best-selling book, "The Shack" came earlier than most. I have two sons that teach at a school flor missionary children in Asia. Last Christmas my wife and I traveled there for their Christmas break Even before arrivng my sons had inquired about this book called, "The Shack". I hadn't heard of it at all. After our arrival on the campus we soon learned that this book was creating a stir among the Christian faculty. Many of the teachers were engrossed in the book, while some were disturbed by it. Some teachers were even using the book for classroom devotions with the students. My sons asked me to read the book and I was jolted at the content. I had no idea that this book would become a best-seller. I never dreamed it could become the book study for the ladies in my home church. I learned that the author, had in his youth attended a sister missionary school in New Guinea while his parents were missionroes there. When his parents returned to North America he grew up and in his adult life has been in ministry, and business. What might not be known to readers is that during his childherod in New Guinea he was sexually molested by the stone-age Dani Tribesmen.

The Shack by William P. Young | Reviewed by Mike Oppenheimer
Young's unbiblical open views are certainly shaped in the books characters and teaching that comes from them. The Shack is an entertaining story (or allegorical representation) that holds the readers attention as an easy read but it also subtly undermines the Christian faith by reinventing Jesus and the Godhead into something that is not recognizable from the Bible. the "Jesus" of The Shack may have the same name but he is not Jesus Christ of the Bible.
